creating a shot list
Shot lists are a key part of our workflow here at East Works, they allow us to make sure we have captured everything you wanted, as well as track which shots worked and which shots didn't. Here’s a guide on how to create a shot list for your next project.
When it comes to shot lists, it doesn't have to be complicated. You could create a simple mood board of shots that work for your project and the final image you have in mind.
This is a mood board one of our clients put together for a shoot recently, the brief that went alongside this was to create beautiful shots of the food being made at lunch time. They asked for top down shots of the food, shots of the chefs making the food and shots of the food being served. This mood board was perfect to show what the client wanted.
Mood boards are typically used for photography, but can be used to aid videographers as well.
This was a shot list from the same shoot at the restaurant, this was made for the videography team, we asked for a four stage shot list that included internal and external shots, so this is what the restaurant provided us with. It’s honestly a great example of what to send to your video team to get the best video possible.
Remember, a shot list does not have to be a complicated document, it can be as simple as sending a mood board.
We hope this has helped you with creating a shot list for next project.
